Back in 2014 I had the pleasure of spending the evening with Julie and Andrew and all their friends to photograph the celebrations for their engagement, upstairs at The Elgin in Maida Vale. So I was delighted when they asked me to be their Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding photographer when the big day finally arrived. Chelsea Register Office (and not Chelsea Registry Office, as I used to call it before I learned better!) is a classic venue for a small intimate wedding, and also very popular with celebrities too – my mum’s a massive Rolling Stones fan and she’s always reminding me that if a Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding is good enough for Mick Jagger it’s good enough for anyone!

I love to start early and catch all the nervous excited energy in the room as the groom and invited guests wait for the bride to arrive, and in good wedding tradition we were kept waiting juuuust the right amount of time. When Julie finally stepped down the aisle with her father it was a thrilling moment for everyone. And Julie and Andrew are such a gorgeous, smiley couple that it’s almost impossible to take a bad photo of them.

After the ceremony we covered Kings Road with confetti and received several “congratulations!” shouted from passing black cabs as everyone lined up for a group photo on the famous Chelsea Old Town Hall steps. Then we all trooped round the corner first to the church gardens for portraits, and then to Tom’s Kitchen Chelsea for the reception and lunch. With just a couple of dozen guests the whole afternoon felt so special, with plenty of time for everyone to have a moment with the happy couple.

By the way Tom’s Kitchen is the perfect venue to take everyone after an intimate Chelsea register office wedding, and the upstairs room is just right for everyone to enjoy some drinks and settle in for lunch. Julie and Andrew started with a champagne reception and topped their day off with a delicious menu and some heartfelt speeches from the fathers of both the bride and groom.
