Hello, I'm Owen!

I think the easiest way to find out if I’m the right photographer for you is to jump on the phone and have a chat. But to give you some advance clues, I’m originally from Glasgow, and I’ve been making my style of reportage wedding photography in London and around the world since 2007. I love being creative and making things, and photography gives me a way to tell stories, create art, and connect with people emotionally, all at the same time. When it comes to telling your story I think a lot of the magic happens in the moments between the ceremony and the speeches, so that’s what I specialise in.

When I’m not photographing weddings, everything else I do professionally seems to revolve around cameras! I’m a TV camera operator (Sunday Brunch, Mel & Sue, that sort of thing!) and I also photograph birthdays and the occasional corporate party for companies like Virgin and Hootsuite. Anywhere there’s people having a fantastic time, that’s where I want to be!

Away from ‘work’ (it doesn’t feel like work!) I’m a bit of a geek and I looove time travel… Check out my Hitchhiker’s Guide To Owen below, but don’t forget the best way to find out if I’m the photographer for you is to get chatting – don’t be shy, say hello!

The Hitchhiker's Guide To Owen

Describes himself as: tall, Scottish, friendly, creative, sourdough-baking, chilli-growing, bike-riding, little-bit-geeky, mostly harmless* kind of a guy with a dry sense of humour and impeccable taste – of course!

Geeky how? Gadgets and sci-fi! I love time travel – movies, TV shows, anything with a grandfather paradox. And button-laden gadgets I can make stuff with, especially music – got an Ableton Push 2 a while ago and I get lost for hours tinkering. Ooh and videogames, right now I’m rather partial to Stardew Valley on the Switch, but I’ve still not scraped the surface of The Witcher 3.

Cats or dogs? Oooh, this is a tricky one! Deep down, I truly love cats. They’re so beautiful, and so adorable when they go crazy for ‘brushy time’, that I’ll tolerate their infamous aloofness. But you can really connect with a dog on a personal level, and it’ll always be there for you. Can I have one of each please?

Favourite feast: Hoppy craft beer from people like Brewdog and Beavertown, and proper Italian pizza with burnt edges… Toasted sourdough dripping with butter and Marmite… And of course the Great British Sunday Roast – it’s got to have proper crispy melt-in-the-mouth roasties though!

What I’ve been watching/listening to lately: Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Daft Punk, Orbital, OK Go, Beach Boys, Jurassic 5, Alan Partridge, Detectorists, Black Mirror, Twin Peaks, The Good Place, Shaun of the Dead, Star Wars, The Post, All The President’s Men

Bucket List: I’d love to photograph a wedding on Lake Como or in the fjords of Norway, or under the Aurora Borealis in Iceland – and the ultimate would be an elopement on a tropical island, ideally one with buried treasure. That’s what you’re planning? You want to have fun making gorgeous photos of it? Let’s do it!

*”Mostly harmless”? Just a wee joke for the Hitchhikers Guide fans…
